Plant vs Whey: the protein showdown

There are a few things we feel very strongly about here at Macacha, and one of those is the amazing benefits of plant-based protein.

First and foremost, the major benefit to us is that plant-based proteins are 100% on par with their whey-based formulas in terms of protein absorption, so you never have to worry about sacrificing results for environmental integrity. But plant protein kicks whey protein out of the water with a range of phytonutrients that support your body holistically.

Secondly, plant-based diets are significantly less resource intensive and environmentally impactful than an animal-based equivalent. To help put it in perspective, producing one kilogram of animal protein requires about 100 times more water than producing one kilogram of grain protein, and the farming of livestock creates more climate disruption than all forms of transportation combined.

Rest assured, Macacha was created with the best ingredients in mind, based on tons of scientific research. Specifically, we formulated our blends with pea protein, which contains 85% protein and is particularly rich in essential branched-chain amino acids, and brown rice protein, which supports increased strength and similar composition to whey protein. And we’ve gone to great lengths to ensure our suppliers adhere to the Soil Association’s strict criteria on product quality, ethics, and sustainability. Further, our ingredients meet an organic standard and organic practices.

Don’t get us wrong though — there are advantages to whey protein. In fact, we’ve provided some light reading on the pros and cons of this specific type of protein. But we do think it’s important to be mindful of the impact our diet has on our body and on our environment.

If you are interested in understanding the nitty gritty of plant versus animal protein, we’ve got you covered here.
